GENESIS

Silk Association of India (SAl), is a voluntary organization registered under the Karnataka Societies Act, 1960, in the year 2006. The main objective of the association is to work in close coordination with the State Departments associated with sericulture development and the Central Silk Board for the furtherance of sericulture industry. As of now, the association has about 300 active members comprising of Cocoon growers, Registered Seed Producers (RSP), Proprietors of Chawki Rearing Centres (CRC), Reelers add Weavers. Besides senior retired officers of both Central Silk Board and State Sericulture Department are also the members of the association. SAI has Executive Committee consisting of the Honorary President, President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer and twelve Executive Committee members representing different sectors of sericulture industry.

OBJECTIVES

To develop awareness among all the stake holders for the development of the industry.

To provide consultancy services and to arrange training programmes as and when requested.

To extend technology support for the sustainable sericulture and to attain self-sufficiency in much needed quality of bivoltine silk.

To establish good and tenable links with State Governments, Central Government and other similar Organizations working for the cause of Silk Industry both within and outside the country.

To form a crisis management group to tackle the problems encountered in various sectors of the industry.

To establish Sericulture Information Centre and Library.

To establish a silk museum to display and to showcase different activities of the industry including the historical background and making it a place of tourist attraction.

To seek representation in policy making committees constituted by Government organizations and involve in policy decisions for the benefit of the stake holders.

ACTIVITIES

Compilation of correct Sericulture information and disseminate the same to all the stake holders with I.T. support.

Support setting up of a 'Sericulture Store' for marketing quality implements, equipment and other inputs for sericulture activities.

Organizing seminars, workshops, interaction meetings, expert lectures etc. on regular basis to share and to exchange new ideas and experiences among all stake holders.

Establishment of 'Customer Service Centre' and 'Silk House' with a Library and other facilities for the benefit of the members.

Organize need based training programmes.

Seek national and international organisation partnership.

To bring out News Letter to update and to disseminate new and novel ideas for the benefit of all the stake holders.

Introduction of backward and forward linkages at all levels for qualitative and quantitative improvement of sericulture sector.
